Here is Scholar's Mate in action: Scholar's Mate happens in only four moves! The concept is simple: White targets the f7-square with both their queen and bishop early, in hopes of delivering checkmate in four moves. Scholar's Mate is usually one of the first checkmates that players learn or experience. We will be seeing the Fool's Mate pattern more in this article. If you are going to move your g-pawn early to fianchetto your light-squared bishop, maybe try moving your g-pawn to g3 instead of the g4 square. This checkmate could have been easily avoided if White had played the normal Grob's attack move 2.Bg2-the checkmate above is just another reminder to keep your f-pawn at home at the beginning of the game. Grob's attack is one of the few openings that can allow Fool's Mate on move two if White misplays. This is called Fool's mate for a reason-White must make two foolish moves in a row in order for Black to conduct this checkmate. These two moves fatally weaken the e1-h4 diagonal, which Black can move their queen to after moving their e-pawn on the first move. In order for Fool's mate to be performed, White must move their g-pawn up two squares and their f-pawn up one or two squares in the first two consecutive moves. Here is Fool's mate in action: Fool's Mate is the fastest checkmate possible. Don't catch yourself on the wrong side of these checkmating patterns, which all result in checkmate in eight moves or less.įool's Mate is the fastest checkmate possible in chess, and it occurs after only two moves! Don't worry, you can't be forced into this checkmate unless you make two bad moves in a row. Whether you are a beginner, advanced beginner, or intermediate player, these 10 checkmates are extremely important to know. By learning the following checkmates, you can avoid some quick losses and maybe even notch some quick wins yourself! Learning basic checkmates is one of the most important things a chess player can do when starting their journey through the magnificent labyrinth of chess.

Jetpack Compose continues to evolve with the features you’ve been asking for. Wondering what’s next? Check out our updated roadmap to see the features we’re currently thinking about and working on, such as animations for lazy item additions and removals, flow layouts, text editing improvements and more! Do continue providing your feedback and help us make Compose better! We’re grateful for all of the bug reports and feature requests submitted to our issue tracker - they help us to improve Compose and build the APIs you need. Make the back button behavior in TextField identical to the behavior in EditText.Allow disabling of scrolling of lazy layouts by adding userScrollEnabled parameter.Let animations follow the system defined “Animator duration scale”.We fixed a lot of issues raised by the community, most notably: Try out the new APIs using and give us feedback! Fixed Bugs The new testTagsAsResourceId semantics property allows integration with UI Automator. For example, the performKeyInput action mimics keyboard input in your tests. Many text features were added, such as allowing customization of includeFontPadding and line heights (see Text documentation and blog post), Brush APIs (see blog post), and the addition of pluralStringResource.Add custom overscroll effects to your scrollable container using Modifier.overscroll. Create your own custom efficient scrollable layouts with LazyLayout. We’re continuing to bring new features to Compose. Mouse support was improved, by adding Modifier.pointerHoverIcon, PointerEventType.Scroll, and PointerEvent.scrollDelta.Read more about how to use them in our animation guidance. Easing curves were added that help write beautiful animations efficiently.Learn more in the gestures documentation. Here’s a sample demonstrating this new functionality. Modifier.nestedScroll provides nested scroll interoperability with views. This class is heavily based on the Accompanist insets library, and replaces it as the preferred mechanism for Insets. These APIs already existed in Compose 1.1 but were marked as The WindowInsets class provides modifiers such as windowInsetsPadding, systemBarsPadding, and windowInsetsTopHeight to deal with the insets of the device. The APIs LazyHorizontalGrid and LazyVerticalGrid let you place lists of items in a grid.Several features and APIs were added as stable. Read more about the rationale for this in our blog post on independent versioning of Jetpack Compose libraries. From this point forward the Compiler releases will be decoupled from the releases of other Compose libraries. Note: Updating the Compose Compiler library to 1.2 requires using Kotlin 1.7.0. We've already updated our samples, codelabs, Accompanist library and MDC-Android Compose Theme Adapter to work with Compose 1.2. ”Ĭompose 1.2 includes a number of updates for Compose on Phones, Tablets and Foldables - it contains new stable APIs graduated from being experimental, and supports newer versions of Kotlin. It’s much easier and faster to write a Composable function than to create a custom view, and it’s also made it much easier to fulfill our designers’ requirements. “ Compose increased our productivity dramatically. We continue to see developers like the Twitter engineering team ship faster using Compose: Today we also released Compose for Wear OS 1.0 - making Compose the best way to build a Wear OS app as well. This release contains new features like downloadable fonts, lazy grids, and improvements for tablets and Chrome OS with better focus, mouse, and input handling.Ĭompose is our recommended way to build new Android apps for phone, tablets and foldables. Today, we’re releasing version 1.2 of Jetpack Compose, Android's modern, native UI toolkit, continuing to build out our roadmap. Posted by Jolanda Verhoef, Android Developer Relations Engineer You really have to have a Japanese person translate the words and names for you. (for example the word "video" is pronounced "bideo" in Japanese)īelow is an example of the Katakana spelling of my name, Dave Jones. You notice when somebody from a certain country has a problem pronouncing certain words? That's usually because the sounds they are having trouble with don't exist in their own language. There are 46 basic letters, and another 26 compound ones, and then a few extras for good measure. But not with a direct one-to-one relationship to ours. They are phonetic characters like our character set. The Katakana characters are used for spelling out foreign words or spelling words phonetically. The Kanji characters are pictograms that were based on looking like or representing different objects, and then complex combinations of those to make other words. They have more than one set of letters, and use them for different things. There is no one-to-one correlation between Japanese characters and English. A Korean employee wrote it out, I scanned it, vectorized it and engraved it. If it makes you feel any better, that's exactly what I did for a gift I created for a Korean couple who own a local hotel. The Chinese language is basically pictograms, they have a solid base, upside-down they do not look stable. Some Chinese teenagers came into the store and I asked them. I engraved the sign and mounted it but something just looked wrong. Over it someone hand wrote 'Made in the USA' in English. I received an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper with it quite large. I had a major company get me something in Chinese that I needed, Made In The USA. If he can get the letters to you in a large format you can scan and X3 trace them to use.įunny story. The other things I did in Chinese were sent to me in large print and I did a trace of it to export as PLT. I then used Corel to hand do a vector over it and exported the vector as PLT. When I did Chinese I had the written Chinese text to work with. Thanks for the help Harvey - Dee even called here and told me to call you once you got home. The only thought I came up with is to have this dude type up his name and text he wants so I can scan it and trace it. Harvey - I took a look at the list of special charioteers to see if I could come up with anything - since I am dealing with Corel not an mechanical engravers with installed fonts I did not find any Japanese text. Thanks for your help Mark and if you come up with anything let me know. I did hope to get it figured out for future needs though. In fact it is just one name badge and I have used up more time trying to figure it out than it would ever be worth. I am a bit surprised that there is not a easy way for us to do change languages in Corel. Sounds like Logojohn and Harvey have dealt with this one and there is not an easy way out. Mike Null sent me a font called Japanese Generic - I thought I might have it whipped but I have a copy of the mans name in Japanese as well as English and the "squiggly lines" of the Japanese do not match - some not even close - so I think I could be beating a dead horse! I do want to publicly thank Mike for going to the trouble of emailing me the font ! Thanks Mike. Mark - the first few fonts I tried were from the X3 disk - they have a list of "Japanese and Korean" fonts - but when you preview them or try to use them they just read as English fonts. This can be a real bummer, my engraving font has over 3,000 characters, and for someone not schooled in reading their language it is a nearly impossible task to find even one character. You must select the characters from the 'Symbols and Special Characters' listing. These fonts do not translate the words, they are normal fonts. If it is anything like an engraving font, it contains the standard alphabet and the foreign one in the list of special characters. I honestly would rather use Apple apps when possible, but sometimes you have to forget about who made an app and choose it for the usability. This is the absolute single best function of the app, though all the others are good, too. In other list apps and To Do apps, it takes a combination of several things in a cluttered UX to do this. With this app you can "easily" move any task from any list to My Day with a single tap. The My Day functionality is so much better than any other To Do app's attempt.they're not even close. The font size/type in Microsoft To Do are just a little too small compared to the Reminders app.īut that's the only area where Microsoft To Do isn't better. The only place where Reminders is better is the font size/type and readability. Use or adjust printables in a way that they can be clear, understandable, and fun to work with for children. What Can Students Learn From Using Spanish Worksheets for Kids? Learn more about how you can improve your classes and make your job easier! However, teachers may find it hard to catch the attention of such small students, so using absorbing teaching aids is absolutely crucial.įinding useful materials, especially Spanish kindergarten worksheets, can be quite a task. It is definitely a good practice to send a child to Spanish classes as young as kindergarten age (or even younger!). The term quinceañera refers to the guest of honor, not the party itself. The younger the age, the easier it is for us to acquire a new language. In Latin American countries, the fiesta de quince años is the celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday. Instructions for each page are provided in English. These sheets cover simple vocabulary terms such as the days of the week, the months of the year, colors, and numbers. Some pages will provide translations for each word to assist with the matching, and others will not. Students will match English and Spanish terms, fill in blanks in sentences using words from a provided list or word bank, answer prompts, and match pictures to words. They encourage the use of flashcards and numbers worksheets like you will find below. This can be done by just reviewing where you left off from the last class or homework. They highly stress that warmups in Spanish class are a key. Repetition, repetition, and keep this repetition motivating for students. We asked about twenty different veteran Spanish teachers what the best way to learn and teach numbers, they all said the same thing. From there we finish off with using ordinal numbers to explain sequences. Just like dates, time telling is not that difficult. After dates, we move on to telling time in Spanish. They follow the basic scheme that English does, so it is not too difficult. We then progress on to teaching the concept of dates in Spanish. We then go from our teens to twenty, that is a good starting point. Having a strong number sense in another language follows a progression that is pretty sequential, isn’t that ironic? It all starts with learning to count to ten. We use them for ages, times, dates, understanding distances, prices, and conversations of all kinds. We use numbers so often that we do not even realize how frequently they come out of mouths.
